You are starting a new chapter. Different people, different campuses, different rules. You are going from a kid to a teenager, like embarking on a new journey. You no longer have recess or nap time, just 5-minute breaks. From show and tell To PowerPoint presentations. From playtime, To drama accusations. No longer playful laughs, just the clicking of keyboards all day. It's never easy for anyone, you learn many lessons, and face challenges. But eventually you'll realize that time flies, and it is important to make the most out of it. You will meet new people, but like the autumn leaves, most are temporary. You will hear and see bad things, but don't get trapped in those things like a fish in a net. You will learn new lessons that will stick with you for the rest of your life like a shadow. But most importantly, don't forget who you are. Going through different phases and friends will change you, but no matter what happens, Be yourself and stay true to what you believe. You’ll try to change yourself to fit in, like a chameleon changing its colors, But soon you will find the right people who accept your true form, The people you connect with like a magnet, And the people who make you feel seen. As you walk through those school doors, remember, Stay true to yourself, Work hard, But most importantly, Trust in this journey. A Fresh Start by Lara Galarce ’30 79
