Only a fragment of the world, I drift in every direction. The things that anchor me, grounding me, are a multitude of many. The phrases that repeat themselves around me, Different dialects, chatters, surrounding myself, Do not stop their complexity for me to understand them. I would say that the world I live in is small, But in reality it isn't. I walk the streets of Miami, But there is something unfamiliar that I sense About enjoying, and taking in the sights of my city. Because I know my head is someplace else In a vision of my own creation. It is in the books I read, absorbing more information inside of them than a lifetime. It is in the notes that I play, that slowly wash away doubts, Allowing me to claim the melodies that are at the tip of my tongue. It is in the words that I write, where I pour my uncertainty into an ocean that never fills, rarely saying what I mean. But more than in my head, I live in a place of mixed emotions, uncertainty in all forms. I am a mosaic of mismatched colors, All intertwined by bilingual tongues. In Between by Nina Shah ’30 29
