9 Evanescent by Mia Shukhman ’31 As dusk turns to dawn, shimmering over the riverbank is a fragile light surrounded by a thin mist, the light growing as you get closer. When near, you realize it's not just a light, you notice that it's the light of a life, a frail fairy, with wings fluttering gently. She’s the color of the sun setting at night and the sun rising in the morning. She looks up at you with her tiny beaded eyes, her eyes have hope and life in them, but the tiny light starts to float away, leaving behind a trail of her existence. You’re proud of her for going, but sad to see her leave so quickly. It’s OK, you think to yourself, because nothing ever seems to last.
