THE ROYAL SEA By Hannah Katz ’30 Amagical violin is always playing The mermaid’s hair in the wind Whimsically swaying Pearls and diamonds The mermaid’s greatest prize Nothing will ever compare to her love for the sea A great size The royal sea it will always be Her fair skin, so smooth, Her iridescent scales, so rough Her scent, royal indeed Golden grapes to eat, she will always need Nothing will ever compare to her love for the sea Where in the sea she only feels free The royal sea it will always be Her natural scent, of peonies and fresh papaya Her watercolor eyes, glowing in the morning sun Her honor, never disrespected But what is lost can never be found In the end The royal sea it will always be Seagulls calling Leaving milky white feathers in its path The tide rolling in Waves pounding on the sand She brushes through her long crimson hair Singing, in despair Because what is lost will never be found She lies down by the royal sea The royal sea it will always be 68
