Little Inklings 2025
DEEP IN THE WATER By Abby Zichella ’29 Deep under the blue, waves crashing overhead Beauty lies in the vibrant colors of coral A home to all, but valued by none Colors fade and death creeps in Ignorance and laziness steal its youth Soon this home disappears Chemicals killing communities The bright glow of fish swimming leaves with the tide Replaced with disease and infection Cowards in crowds, no one helps the helpless When will the others realize What was once the present is shifting to the past The reef is waiting Waiting for one individual to rescue it For one individual to realize our error before it is too late Now all that lives of the vibrant coral are memories of what we once had What we once had and took for granted 66
