Little Inklings 2025
IN ME By Natalia Savarin ’29 I AM FROM By Luna Mercadal ’29 In me is the beach, the ocean, the small grains outlined with tall wide grapefruit forests giving us a blanket cover of shade. Inme are the rolling hills, the people biking, running, and talking. In me is every grain of rice in the bowl and beans. Inme are the bitten, cracked, dented, scratched puzzle pieces marinated in slimy wet fur. In me are snow and ice palaces singing “Let it Go”. Inme are her clothes, skirts, dresses and shirts bathed in cheetah spots and scarves. Inme are laughs, giggles, smiles and family. The ocean, the waves, the sand beneath my feet I am from the fresh mangoes and fruits dripping down my neck onto the hot summer street I am from the smell of the marina and the tide coming in I am from the waves crashing against the shore soaking up the water like lotion to skin I am from the dancing sea wind blowing in my face I am from the refreshing saltwater bringing me to grace I am from the coarse hot sand between my toes I am from the sound of the birds singing as they go I am from the stinging feeling of saltwater in my eyes I am from the boat engines roaring as they go bye I am from the sound of people playing on the open sandy space I am from the Ocean… I’ve found my place 58
