NATURE’S FURY By Daven Matri ’30 Thou may see the open hands of darkness as it sweeps over a town in winter’s paradise. Thou may feel the cold heart of the ice queen as she slams her frigid staff over the town, destroying everything in its path. Thou may hear the roar of thunder as lightning strikes overhead. Thou may smell the worst of battles with nature without remorse as it feeds on anger that has been multiplying for centuries. But thou knows this is not nature’s fault. Thou knows who the true culprits are. They have polluted, they have destroyed, they have killed and they have betrayed Mother Nature. Now we must pay the price. But thou cannot lose hope, for a person does not lose nature’s battle until they lose hope. Hope empowers us, prevents the worst of disasters, and cares for our young. Hope rebuilds for a better tomorrow. Hope assists us amidst the dangers Mother Nature throws at us. Hope rebuilds, creates and cares. 54
