HOLD ON TO WHAT YOU HAVE By: Eve Kingdon ’29 Flames that danceupon thehills,Wildfires raging, hearts aren’t tranquil, California’s landscape, scarred andworn, The fierce inferno, forever torn. The skies are dark, the air is thick, With smoke and ash, the danger is quick, The roar of flames, a deafening sound, As nature’s fury is all around. The trees, they burn with fierce delight, Their leaves and bark, a fiery sight, The wildfires spread, a deadly fight, Leaving nothing but a barren light. The people flee, with tears and fears, Their homes and dreams, in ashes and tears, Their lives, aflame, in a deadly embrace, As California’s wildfires take their toll with grace. The firefighters, brave and true, Their courage, a beacon, shining through, Their work, a never-ending fight, Against the flames, day and night. The wildfires in California, are a deadly sight, A force, so fierce, so wild and bright, A reminder of nature’s might, A warning, to hold on tight. 94
