Little Inklings 2024

HOW FASHION CAME TO BE By: Leia Caplow ’30 One day there was a beautiful young lady named Fashine. She had brilliant blue eyes and long straight brown hair. Overall, a very pretty girl! She was the daughter of a very powerful Queen named Yalingnufa. In her kingdom she made every woman wear a simple, raggy, brown dress and every man wore a brown, torn, vest with brown knee-length pants. Fashine was so tired of wearing the same old thing every day, so she decided she was going to change that for herself. The only problem was that she had no idea how! She racked her brain day and night but just couldn’t find an answer. Since Fashine could not figure out what to do, she decided to go to her favorite place in the world. Going to the barn usually helped her think, so she hopped on her bike and rode it down the little path toward the barn. It was summertime, so when she arrived the sheep had just been sheared. As a result, there was wool all over the floor! Fashion went to sit down on the little brown stool in the corner. While she sat, she started thinking, what if she just made a new sort of fabric?Would that be enough? And then it struck her, the thought was so fierce she jumped out of her seat and exclaimed to all, “ I’VE GOT IT!!!!” She grabbed some wool off the floor, stuffed it in her bag, and ran out the door. When she got home she got straight to work. The next day when Fashine walked through the door, she was wearing a gorgeous cotton dress with extravagant, dyed pink fluffs of wool on the sleeves. It was by far the prettiest dress anyone had ever seen! It was absolutely gorgeous and everyone in her class LOVED it! The next day everyone came in with their own creative styles and eventually designer brands started popping up. They named the whole scheme after the mastermind who created the whole thing, and that is why it is now called fashion. 68
