29 LET’S WRITE THAT DOWN By: Aiden Cohen ’29 One day, Nu Gua was roaming the land of greater China, when an idea sprouted into her head. She thought about her life experiences, and thought that she should create a way to write down or record a way for people of further generations to know about her and what she did in her life. She spread the word farther than the longest rivers, oceans, and lands, and a god by the name of Haoboa came to help her with her creation although he has a tendency to hyperfixate on little things, Nu Gua still accepted his help. They went out to the fields, beaches, and forests, and tried many different ways to write down information. With many failed attempts, Nu Gua was feeling hopeless. For months, Nu Gua fell into a deep depression, and felt lonely and lost in life. As she was in this dark part of her life, she created little humans to comfort her. During this time, Nu Gua cut off contact with everybody, and Haoboa continues for several months to find the best material ever. This drove him insane, so he decided to take a break until Nu Gua was ready to continue. Right around this time, The pillars that kept up the sky from the Earth began to collapse. Nu Gua suddenly became extremely worried, and she knew she had to do something. After months of crying in a deep depression, she got out, and saved the borders and repaired them. After saving the earth, the one place that she called home was almost destroyed, she promised herself that she would never give up again on herself or her peers. She got back in contact with Haoboa, and he was thrilled to see that she was ready to dive back into her quest of finding the perfect thing to write on. During these months, he continues the search, to try and bring her out of her depression. This search went on for months. They tried element after elements, and simply could not find any portable, durable options. But after all this testing, they found one good material. This material was none other than tree bark. There was one problem, however. Trees and their bark were not very portable, and were very exposed to the elements. They however thought of an exceptional idea. They believed with pan gu’s axe, they could cut wood so thin that it would be as Thin as air. They went to pan gu, and presented their idea. He thought this would be a great addition to society, so he complied. After going to the forest, they selected the finest tree available, and cut it into wood so thin that it could be perfectly written on. They called it “paper”.
