Little Inklings 2023

WITHERING By: Vivi Pasos ’28 Artemis’s waves her silver palm Enlisting her forces to protect the calm Her forests offer their shelter to those who are anew Her silent tears drop as a morning dew Seeing the world in psychedelic color As you spiral it grows increasingly darker Stealing saturation as he does imagination Father time threads his cruel creation Hestia smiles from the flickering flames Until they become the carnage of my mystical inmates The air seems to get smaller and smaller As we run from the unknown, no longer the hunter With the grass less green and the willows less wise Let unadulterated creativity cripple with lies And as we can no longer find comfort in the bounties of apollo The elder catch sight of dionysus and follow Drawn in by theatrics and drink But trapped by madness and addiction they sink His wild grape vines ensnare like a barbed wire Leaves overcoming their vision in a haze of desire So in our youth may we absorb the sunshine befriend the bugs May early life be that of rose colored glasses and meaningless hugs So as we lose the soft pink film over our eyes Remember all that is innocent in the end dies 21
