Yánsè went to Na Gua to ask where her banner was. But Na Gua tricked her. Since Na Gua is also the goddess of renewal she wanted the banner to have a purpose and that purpose would be to help Na Gua do her job, renew. So, the banner may only appear to renew. Specifically after rain washes the color away. The first time it rained, everyone saw and started worshiping it. Worshiping Yánsè. It was called the Rainbow because simply it was a bow that appeared after rain. The next day, everyone woke up to colorful flowers and green trees.
