RYAN VINOCUR ❜ 28 Julie went back to her desk. Something that can be found on Earth but rare? She thought about many things. They all seemed too plain, though. Julie sighed and closed her eyes. Suddenly, Julie felt like someone was in the room with her. She opened her eyes to see Nu Gua, the creator of people. Nu Gua smiled and went over to Julie. “I heard about the assignment the other gods gave you. And, just so you know, I could totally help,” she said. “Yeah, I could surely use it. I can’t think of anything good!” Julie exclaimed. Nu Gua giggled and looked around at all of Julie’s glass structures. They sat for close to an hour before Julie sat up. “Have you thought of something?” Nu Gua asked her. “Yes! I was thinking about how everyone thinks the rainbow is super pretty. So, I then thought about how glass with different colors is also very pretty. I’m thinking of natural, colorful glass shards. They can be buried deep underground, and used in jewelry. We can call them jewels!” Julie exclaimed. Nu Gua nodded. Julie began forming multiple clumps of different colored glass, while Nu Gua cut them into shapes. They gave names to each shard, and spread them all around the world. Julie grabbed about one hundred shards and went up to the heavens. She presented the jewels to the leader of the Celestial Bureaucracy. Later she became the goddess of jewels. And, that is how jewels came to be. HOW JEWELS CAME TO BE 11
