39 Had they seen her?The tiger wondered if this was the last time she would see the shining sun, the graceful water lilies, or even the annoying little frogs that jumped and bounced everywhere. Hardly daring to breathe, the tiger went as still as a statue. Be still . The words echoed in her head. The hunters appeared to be staring right at the tiger. But nothing happened. They were whispering and pointing. For a fleeting moment, the humans raised their rifles and directed them at her - then, they retreated into the depths of the rainforest. The tiger would live. But that day, she learned to never let her guard down, because humans were dangerous. Because humans were untrustworthy, and because you never knew when they would creep up on you. That didn?t mean the tiger was paranoid. No, she was still as playful and carefree as she was before. But she was smarter now, smart enough to know to avoid getting seen by humans, because they would one day be the death of her kind. Or would they? Yuelu Wang | 6th Grade
