EDITOR’S NOTE Four years of high school go by faster than anyone warns you. Somewhere between the chaos and the laughter, you find your people, and suddenly the spontaneous ice cream runs and conversations on the senior deck that go nowhere, and last forever, are the moments you’ll hold onto the most. This year’s Inklings explores what it means to be rooted, and uncovers a different truth on every page. Inside, you will find writers sitting with homes they’re leaving, languages they almost lost, and the people and places that have shaped who they are, and who they are becoming. It is art that depicts the act of holding on: to memories, objects, and the earth that literally roots us. For the last four years, Inklings has taught me what it means to create space for others to share the most personal parts of their lives; this year, for the first time, that space extends to faculty as well. Because this magazine exists beyond any single issue, it records who we are, and were, preserved in the words and visual art of every community member who contributed their voice. None of it comes together without the people behind the scenes.
