I was an old friend Olivia Noblet ’26 I was scared. Heavy footsteps behind me, Cracking like thunder. Eyes frantic for any escape to no avail I heard a shot. Hooves slip, the trees spinning as I fall. He laughs. I wait to become his prize, But the thrill is gone, The chase is over. He leaves, Taking the tornado with him. I was no longer scared. For death treated me kinder than any man. He wrapped me in a warm cloak of empathy, Cold hands stroked my fur in place. Bodies curled together between shallow breaths. I was an old friend, being welcomed once again. 26
