Another interesting consequence is those who judge loaners or buyers. I never understood it, but I’ve had experiences with it in my most trivial things. I’ve gone grocery shopping just after getting my new body and a few people gave me dirty looks, not because of anything I did wrong, but just because they knew I was a buyer. It shows a lot more with radical changes because it takes a bit to readjust, and I could feel them staring daggers at me. Still, the change was for me and my own personal happiness, not anyone else’s. If it hadn’t been for me, I probably wouldn’t have wanted to go through the lengths I did. Each meeting was a struggle for what seemed like an easy process to me. I thought the challenge would lie only in the money, but it certainly came in eventually getting the operation. My first meeting was something I thought went well, a sort of preliminary meeting for planning purposes. “Hi, I’m here to talk about the operation. I believe I have an appointment with the head doctor in 20 minutes,” I said. “Indeed you do, in twenty minutes I’ll call your name and you can meet with him,” responded the receptionist. As I sat back in the waiting room I picked up a magazine to flip through in the meantime and noticed that a celebrity had just become a buyer. It was an extreme rarity to see, especially after becoming a public figure. I could think of only no more than a half dozen that had decided to do so. I never understood the stigma, especially if you had the money like them, because the process is completely reversible. I had spent years finally getting enough money for even the preliminary meeting, but I was no celebrity. It’s not to say I had a bad job. In fact, I was the book keeper for one of the actual body swapping companies. I thought that would help me a little with the process, but it was completely irrelevant. This thought was interrupted by the P.A. system saying, “Jordan Delarosa, your appointment is now, right this way.” At last I saw the doctor, Dr. Mackenzie. They were renowned for their work, but more than anything they were the only doctor I could meet within a hundred miles of my apartment. Anyone I knew would just bring them up if I mentioned buying, and claimed they were the best in the state, a much weaker claim when I realized they were the only one in the state. I got to their office and just sat down to begin talking. They sat across a large wooden desk, almost too tall to see over when I sat down. Although we were at roughly the same height the desk made it feel like I was looked down upon just by being here. 40
