TYRANTS OF THE MIND Isabel Almada-Sabate Waves that flow like silk and wash up onto our inner coast expanding, changing form, and growing legs that they use to walk around the forest of our mind searching for berries and lighting fires that give us pieces of ourselves. Colorful and opposed to uniformity, disgusted by conformity. Yet when met with an intrusive thought, they follow societal norms with complete regret. Shapeshifters, now turned into puzzle pieces but one piece is missing. one piece away from being whole It was never about walking on the side of the road picking up trash and carefully putting it in the trash bag only to have the one trash bag with a hole at the bottom, so every step forward becomes two steps backwards and you go through the day unknowingly. The bag is closed. It’s just expanding, and you don’t know how to deal with it. 34
