RE Log Spring 2022
48 Ransom Everglades LOG SPRING 2022 Class N e together.’ I regularly keep in touch with Evan Rothfield and Steve Christie. Evan and I share Dolphins tickets and frequently see Scott Greenwald at the games.” See photo of Andrew and family above. Lillian Hayes Martin writes, “My husband and I both work remotely and are sorta empty nesters depending upon UT’s COVID status due to our youngest being a junior there. We live in Austin and are enjoying life hiking, traveling with my mom or Adam and making the most of every day. Here’s a photo of my mom and me in Iceland in August 2021. Sending out good vibes to all.” Kate Shaw Patterson , see Lisa Shaw ’77 Stuart Ratzan says, “My wife, Mycki, and I will be married 29 years this March. We have two children. Our daughter, Baylar ’17 , graduated from Amherst College this past December (she took a COVID semester off in fall ’20) where she majored in English and is off to Madrid to teach English there for a bit. Our son, Leo ’19 , is a junior at the University of Miami where he is pre-med and just crushing school. He is taking this semester to study abroad in Lausanne, Switzerland. I am a trial law- yer with my own firm, Ratzan Weissman & Boldt, with new offices in Coconut Grove at the Related building. Mycki is also a lawyer, practicing criminal law with her firm, sharing offices with mine in the same building. We live in the Grove where our new labradoodle, Milo, is terrorizing us! My practice has been national lately so, despite the close proximity to where we were all raised, I do get out a bit. We spend a lot of time in Colorado (Breckenridge) as well so if any of you are ever out there and want to ski or ride bikes or hike or just hang out, please get in touch. I feel blessed to maintain close friendships after all these years with Lance ‘Ricky’ Ross, Mike Turner , and E.J. Gong . In fact, we are all getting together with our wives and headed to dinner tomorrow night. E.J. and his wife Susan are in town from Seattle as fate would have it. I also see Scott Srebnick around town from time to time including at the Dolphin football games where our seats are near one an- other. I wish everyone the very best and hope to see you all at our next reunion.” Lance Ross writes, “My wife, Amy, and I will be married 28 years this February. My daughter Phoebe is 21 and is in the midst of transferring from Tallahassee to South Florida. My son Aidan is a senior at Saint Thomas Aquinas here in Fort Lauderdale where we have resided since 2005. Amy teaches yoga, and my financial advi- sory practice has been at Oppenheimer since 2010. When not working we enjoy boating, walking our new Mini Aussie, golfing and dining.” Evan Rothfield says, “Jeanne and I have only been married 26 years. Our daughters are doing great – Julia sup- posedly graduated from Brown in 2020, and is now a sustainability consultant in Boston and part-time white-water rafting guide in Maine. Allie is spending her last semester at Emerson’s L.A. campus, planning to embark on an acting career. Jeanne recently started a new position at Razorfish, a digital marketing agency. I’ve been a developer for some years with a small startup focused on matching cancer patients to clinical trials, recently acquired by IQVIA, a large player in the health care sector. We hang out in New Hampshire as long as we can in the sum- mer. I still get out with former ultimate frisbee friends to play disc golf, and whenever I see Steve Christie , I try to avoid direct eye contact at all costs.” Paul Simoni writes, “In early 2020 I got divorced, and just this past December got married to a wonderful woman named Desiree. Was an empty nester before that; Daniel graduated from Syracuse in 2019 with a degree in film. Now he’s living in Los Angeles, and do- ing his thing – he’s very happy out there. My father passed away in October 2020, and my mom, at 90, is still going strong, active and sharp as a tack. I’m still in the incentive travel business, 30 years and counting now, running my own company. COVID-19 took a toll on our business for the last couple of years, but we are now back and going strong. In our off time, we like to travel. We just got back from two weeks in Bora Bora and have a big trip planned to Europe later this year, pandemic permitting. I love taking my car on track, and Desi loves to paint. We also enjoy going to Heat and Dolphin games (we have season tickets to both) concerts and shows. I see others have Dolphin season tickets too. We’re in Section 143, row 27 – it would be great to see some fellow alumni there next season. Hope everyone is happy, healthy and safe!” Scott and Alex (Martinez) Tornek tell us, “We still live in Wilmington, Del., and always welcome visitors. Scott enjoyed connecting with David Elkins ’84 in Miami recently and has also been in touch with classmates Erin (McKee) Agar, Lilian (Hays) Martin , and Sara (Kalstone) Salzman , as well as some of the older kids: Jon Goldstein ’82, Jeff Rubin ’82 and Ron Nyman ’82 . Our kids continue to get older and in turn, make us look older. Our son Matt gradu- ated from Penn this past year and works
