Little Inklings 2020-21

49 Maya woke up, and she couldn?t see past five feet. There was no noise, no screams, just ash, smoke, and debris. Maya tried to move, but she couldn?t. Her legs were stuck under a wooden column. Maya took a deep breath, and placed her hands on the column. She pushed up as hard as she could, and lifted the column just enough to swing her legs out. Maya was in more pain than she had ever felt before. Her head was pounding, her face was bleeding, her ribs were throbbing, and her legs were badly bruised. Maya rolled onto her back, and looked up at the cloud of smoke as tears streamed down her face. The girl who couldn?t walk ended up being the only survivor. Adriana Carvalho | 8th Grade
