Little Inklings 2020-21

29 I always looked forward to my family?s road trips but, I started enjoying them even more during the COVID pandemic because they provided an escape to the everyday monotony of our virtual existence. All our road trips carry similar elements. The car is always over packed. We never leave when we say we are going to leave. We always overstay our time at rest stops and it feels like we always arrive at our destination long after dark. That said, they?re always full of fun and lasting memories. After the car is fully packed, the dialogue between my parents is as predictable as the sun rising. It goes something like this: ?Are you crazy?YOU were NOT waiting for me! I was waiting for YOU!?This line is usually repeated back and forth between one to the other until we reach the stop sign before entering the causeway. By the time we pass the cruise ships at the Port of Miami, about a 30-second drive from the causeway ramp, my Dad?s right hand is in my mom?s left hand and they are both saying to each other and my sister and me, how much they?re looking forward to our trip. Same thing every time. Same dialog- different trips. Next up, the cards come out. My family and I love to play cards while on road trips. Sometimes, the cards have questions that lead to interesting conversations. Sometimes the cards are for a family feud type competition. Sometimes it?s a deck of cards for a game of hearts or BS. My sister keeps a log of inside family jokes and inevitably, our card games add more jokes to the list. Good Times
